INSTALLIING A CEILING FAN THE RIGHT WAY!

Tired of watching your ceiling fan do the dancing jig.  Well it is out of balance and I am going to tell you how to fix it.  Ceiling fans are not known to be in balance.  Different blades have differing weights and thus heavier sides.  What you need to do is index the blades.  Take care in removing the blades.  If your fan is balanced, you need to re-balance it by numbering each blade with a pen somewhere only you can see while working on it.  That or you can take a small Sharpie and color code it.
Have one indexed blade a number one blade marked on the blade plus the motor.  This blade only gets removed if you service the fan and you will know where to reinstall it.  Start swapping out blades from one side to the other tightening and restarting the fan to check balance.  You should get more in balance as you go along.  Make notes to which swapping did what to the balance perhaps by a plus and minus signifying a better or worse result.
Once you get narrowed down for the final balance you might try swapping fan blades next to one another.  This will do the job just remember to have patience.  DON'T FORGET TO RETIGHTEN FAN BLADES WHEN DONE!!!
